COP29 Azerbaijan Operating Company, responsible for organising the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), has been conducting familiarisation trips since October 28.
These visits are aimed at heads of accredited diplomatic missions and international organisations in Azerbaijan, as well as leading delegates from working groups that will attend the conference, COP29Azerbaijan Operating Company told Report, Caliber.Az reports.
Approximately 100 representatives from diplomatic missions from nearly 50 countries participated in these visits, alongside over 100 delegates and coordinators from leading working groups.
They toured key event locations, including the Baku Olympic Stadium and Heydar Aliyev International Airport, to see the ongoing preparation for the conference. Participants were briefed on the Blue and Green Zones at the event venues and saw the arrangements made for high-ranking officials and guests.
They toured the plenary session halls, the Media Centre designed to facilitate the work of journalists, meeting rooms, national pavilions, and the Accreditation Centre. Moreover, they gained detailed insights into the operational management processes at the airport during COP29 and the associated measures.
The guests who took part in these visits expressed their appreciation for the extensive work accomplished in a short timeframe to organise COP29. They conveyed their best wishes for the successful execution of the event.
The 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) will be held in Azerbaijan on November 11-22. This decision was made at the COP28 plenary session in Dubai on December 11, 2023. During two weeks, Baku will become a global hub, welcoming around 70,000 to 80,000 international guests.
The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) is an agreement signed at the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro in June 1992, aimed at preventing dangerous human interference with the climate system.
The abbreviation COP means "Conference of the Parties" and refers to the highest decision-making body responsible for overseeing the implementation of the UNFCCC. The Convention has 198 member states. Unless otherwise decided by the parties, the COP is held annually. The first COP event was held in Berlin in March 1995, and its secretariat is based in Bonn.
