31 July 2024 18:24

Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov met with Ditmir Bushati, Head of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) Election Observation Mission, on July 31.

The discussion focused on preparations for the upcoming snap parliamentary elections scheduled for September 1 and Azerbaijan's international commitments related to the electoral process, the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry told Caliber.Az.

On June 28, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev signed an order on the dissolution of the Milli Majlis (Parliament) of the sixth convocation and the call for snap parliamentary elections. According to the order, the elections will be held on September 1, 2024.

Bayramov outlined Azerbaijan’s ongoing efforts to ensure free and transparent elections, highlighting the systematic measures implemented throughout the presidential elections earlier this year. He also discussed the arrangements being made for international observers to participate in the upcoming parliamentary elections.

Moreover, Bayramov emphasized that these elections will be conducted in territories of Azerbaijan that were recently liberated. He assured that, in accordance with legal requirements, every effort is being made to organize the elections to the highest standards, fully aligning with international norms.

Bayramov also underscored the importance of election observation missions maintaining an objective and impartial stance throughout the process.

Bushati announced that a press conference would be held on August 1 to officially commence the observation mission. He also provided details on the planned activities and key milestones for the mission over the next six weeks.
