Azerbaijan, Pakistan discuss military ties, security, anti-terror fight PHOTO/UPDATED

Azerbaijani Deputy Defence Minister Col Gen Karim Valiyev visited the headquarters of Pakistan’s Global Industrial and Defence Solutions (GIDS) company, which specialises in the country’s defence industry and is one of the largest manufacturers of military products.

The delegation was presented with detailed briefings on the appointment and areas of activity of GIDS, Caliber.Az reports, citing the Defence Ministry.

It was noted that the company produces military products used on land, at sea and in the air, including in air defence systems and integrated systems, as well as in nuclear, biological (bacteriological) and chemical protection.

Issues of mutual interest were discussed in detail at the meeting with the participation of Azerbaijan’s Ambassador to Pakistan Khazar Farhadov.

Azerbaijani Deputy Defence Minister Karim Valiyev and Chief of Pakistani  Army Staff Syed Asim Munir have discussed military cooperation, security and the fight against terrorism.

The discussions took place on May 23 as part of Karim Valiyev’s official visit to Pakistan, Caliber.Az reports, citing the Defence Ministry.

“The sides discussed issues of bilateral cooperation in the military, military-technical and military-educational fields, as well as other issues related to the fight against terrorism and security,” the report says.

The parties held a tete-a-tete meeting, and then in an expanded format.

Welcoming the guests, Army General Munir expressed satisfaction to see them in Pakistan.

He congratulated the Azerbaijani people on the victory in the Patriotic War and on ensuring the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan.

He noted that friendly relations between the armies of the two countries are developing, having entered a new stage. It was noted that Pakistan attaches special importance to military cooperation with Azerbaijan, and the existence of broad opportunities for further development of military ties was emphasized.

Thanking for the invitation, Valiyev noted that friendly relations have historically developed between the Azerbaijani and Pakistani peoples, which have greatly contributed to the development of bilateral military cooperation, as well as in other areas.

He emphasized that the development and expansion of cooperation with Pakistan in the military sphere, as in all other areas, are constantly in the focus of attention of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.

Speaking about the provocations committed by the Armenian armed forces on the conditional border, Chief of the Azerbaijani General Staff Valiyev noted that these provocations were deliberately committed by Armenia in order to aggravate the situation and each time the enemy was given a worthy response.

At the meeting, the importance of expanding ties between the types of troops of the two countries’ armies, holding joint exercises Azerbaijan-Pakistan-Turkey and further development of trilateral cooperation was stressed.

Pakistan and Azerbaijan marked the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations in 2022. Pakistan and Azerbaijan share a special political bond that transcends their geographical distance. It allows for collaboration in a variety of fields, particularly those related to the military and business.

Pakistan was among the first countries to express political support for Azerbaijan during the 44-day war with Armenia in 2020. Pakistan also supports Azerbaijan in the restoration of the country's liberated territories.
