Azerbaijan reaffirms its commitment to normalise ties with Armenia PHOTO/UPDATED
Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov met with EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission Josep Borrel in Brussels on May 15.
The sides discussed the current state and prospects of cooperation between Azerbaijan and the European Union, including cooperation in energy and transport corridors, the process of normalization of relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia, and the current situation in the region, Caliber.Az reports with reference to the press service of the Foreign Ministry.
The meeting of Azerbaijani and Armenian leaders in Brussels, which was held after a break of almost nine months, was highlighted from the point of view of advancing the peace agenda.
Bayramov stressed Azerbaijan's commitment to normalizing relations between the two countries based on the principles of territorial integrity and sovereignty.
It was stressed that preventing attempts to hinder the process, including the latest provocations by Armenia, was essential. At the same time, the elimination of the mine threat by Armenia was highlighted.
The sides also noted the importance of the early conclusion of the negotiations on the new agreement, which will be the legal basis for the relations between Azerbaijan and the European Union.
The meeting also included an exchange of views on other issues of mutual interest.
