Azerbaijan's Parliament denounces Swedish-Armenian friendship group's unfounded accusations

10 March 2025 16:01

The Azerbaijani Milli Majlis's (Parliament) Working Group on Relations with the Parliament of Sweden has strongly rejected the statement made by the Swedish-Armenian parliamentary friendship group on March 6, 2025, calling it unfounded, biased, and prejudiced.

The Milli Majlis’s Working Group emphasized in a statement that the declaration contained lies and defamatory accusations aimed at distorting the true situation in Azerbaijan, Caliber.Az reports.

"This disgraceful attempt seeks to undermine the sovereignty of the Republic of Azerbaijan and justify those accused of committing war crimes against the Azerbaijani people," the statement read.

The Azerbaijani group also criticized the Swedish-Armenian parliamentary friendship group for deliberately omitting key facts.

"As part of the Armenian lobby, you deliberately fail to mention the 30-year occupation of internationally recognized Azerbaijani territories by Armenia, the countless war crimes committed against peaceful Azerbaijanis, ethnic cleansing, and mass human rights violations," the statement continued. "You prefer to ignore the atrocities committed by Armenian armed forces, the Khojaly genocide, and the brutal killings and torture of innocent people, including the elderly, women, and children."

The Working Group accused the Swedish-Armenian parliamentary friendship group of a selective and biased approach, asserting that their actions were based on double standards. "The true aim of the Swedish-Armenian parliamentary friendship group is to defame Azerbaijan through political manipulation," the statement argued.

"Presenting those accused of war crimes and separatism as innocent 'political figures and civilians' is nothing more than an outright distortion of facts."

In its final remarks, the Azerbaijani group reiterated that the Azerbaijani judicial system adheres fully to international standards. "Any claims to the contrary are nothing but slander," the statement concluded.
