Azerbaijan’s parliament speaker presents gender equality achievements in UAE photo
During a working trip to the United Arab Emirates, Speaker of Azerbaijan’s Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova participated in the second session of the Women’s Parliamentary Forum of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean, held in Abu Dhabi.
According to the Milli Majlis press service, as cited by Caliber.Az, Gafarova said in her opening address that the strong focus on gender equality and the empowerment of women reflects the Assembly’s firm commitment to collective efforts aimed at achieving common objectives.
She recalled that Azerbaijan’s parliament has formally applied for observer status in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean and expressed hope that backing this request would open the way for closer cooperation and more effective joint initiatives.
Speaking about the current state of gender equality in Azerbaijan, Gafarova noted that women in the country are widely represented across political, economic, scientific, educational, healthcare and other sectors. She emphasised that women hold senior roles within the legislative and executive authorities, the judicial system and the diplomatic corps.
Gafarova added that the adoption of the National Action Plan on Gender Equality for 2026–2028 continues the Azerbaijani government’s consistent efforts in this field. She also pointed out that the previous convocation of the Milli Majlis had reviewed 53 draft laws connected to gender equality and family policy.
