Azerbaijan's satellite to improve communication access in Tajikistan's remote regions
Azercosmos, Azerbaijan's space agency, operating under the Ministry of Digital Development and Transportation, has finalized a cooperation agreement with ZET Mobile, a Tajik mobile operator.
This partnership will enable ZET Mobile to utilize the Azerspace-2 satellite to deliver high-quality communication services to the remote regions of Tajikistan, Caliber.Az reports citing local media.
Azercosmos serves as Azerbaijan’s primary satellite operator and is the first of its kind in the Caucasus region. The company specializes in satellite imagery and geoinformation services and is a key exporter of satellite services. In 2020 alone, Azercosmos exported its services to 30 countries.
From January to November 2023, the company expanded its reach, exporting satellite services to 48 countries. The top five countries receiving these services in 2023 included the United Kingdom, Luxembourg, the United Arab Emirates, Germany, and Nigeria.
On January 12, 2024, Azerbaijan achieved a significant milestone by registering its own orbital position at 46° east longitude. The management rights for the C and Ku frequency bands utilized by the Azerspace-1 satellite were officially transferred from Malaysia to Azerbaijan, marking the country's first and only orbital position.
Looking ahead, plans are in place for the launch of the Azersky-2 satellite in 2026, accompanied by the deployment of two additional satellites, Azersky 2A and Azersky 2B.
Additionally, on April 5, 2024, Azercosmos introduced a groundbreaking platform for monitoring climate change from space, a first for Azerbaijan.
As part of the 29th UN Climate Change Conference (2024) scheduled for November in Baku, a summit involving various space agencies will also feature Azercosmos.
