Azerbaijan's Shusha showcases cultural heritage to Turkic world scholars PHOTO
Participants in the international congress under the theme “The First Turkological Congress: A Century of Scientific and Cultural Heritage” held on the margins of the Turkic World Week, have visited the city of Shusha to explore its rich historical and cultural landmarks.
The visit began at the Shusha Fortress, where delegates were briefed on the city's history and the construction of its iconic defensive walls, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
Officials told the visitors that the fortress, built by Karabakh Khan Panah Ali Khan, had protected Shusha from external attacks for many years and became a lasting symbol of the city's resilience. They also highlighted the extensive restoration and conservation work carried out since Shusha was liberated from occupation.
The delegation then visited the city's central square, home to the bullet-damaged monuments of prominent Azerbaijani cultural figures Khurshidbanu Natavan, Bulbul, and Uzeyir Hajibayli.
The program also included visits to the Khurshidbanu Natavan House Museum, the Khan Gizi Spring, and the Ganja Gate of Shusha Fortress.
During the tour, participants were informed that the large-scale restoration and reconstruction projects underway in Shusha are designed not only to preserve the city's historical and cultural heritage but also to reinforce its status as an international centre for culture and science.
