The protection of intangible cultural heritage remains a key priority of Azerbaijan, the country’s delegation has said at a meeting held under the framework of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO).
The statement was made during the 11th session of the General Assembly of States Parties to the 2003 Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, held at the headquarters of UNESCO in Paris, Caliber.Az reports, citing the Azerbaijani Ministry of Culture.
Azerbaijan’s delegation, led by Minister of Culture Adil Karimli, outlined national efforts to preserve and promote living cultural traditions, including the continued expansion of Azerbaijani elements inscribed on UNESCO heritage lists.
Officials stressed that safeguarding intangible cultural heritage has been integrated into state policy priorities, with sustained attention to documentation, promotion, and transmission of traditional practices.
The session also brought together member states to review the implementation of the 2003 Convention, discuss improvements to heritage protection mechanisms, and strengthen international cooperation in preserving global cultural diversity.
