Azerbaijan seeks key leadership roles in Universal Postal Union
Azerbaijan has announced its candidacy for top leadership positions within the Universal Postal Union (UPU), including Director General and Deputy Director General of the organization’s International Bureau.
The country is also vying for seats as chair and member of both the Postal Operations Council and the Administrative Council, Caliber.Az reports per local media.
According to the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport, Azerbaijan’s delegation is attending the 28th UPU Congress, currently underway in Dubai. The Congress, held every four years, is the UPU’s highest decision-making body and brings together plenipotentiary representatives from all 192 member states.
The agenda includes elections for the International Bureau’s leadership and for 41 seats on the UPU’s councils, distributed across five global regions. These councils play a central role in shaping international postal regulations and guiding the future development of the global postal system.
On the sidelines of the Congress, the EMS Awards ceremony was held to honor excellence in express mail services.
Azerbaijan’s national postal operator, Azerpost, received a silver award for operational efficiency and was recognized among the winners in the “Customer Service” category.
