Azerbaijan strengthens diplomatic ties: Series of meetings at the UN General Assembly PHOTO
During the high-level week of the 79th session of the UN General Assembly, Azerbaijan's Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov engaged in a series of important discussions with foreign ministers from Albania, Montenegro, Egypt, and Saint Lucia, focusing on enhancing diplomatic relations and cooperation across various sectors.
In his meeting with Albania's Foreign Minister Igli Hasani, Bayramov highlighted the significance of strengthening bilateral and multilateral cooperation, particularly in the context of the current regional landscape. Both ministers emphasized the need to enhance political, economic, energy, cultural, and educational ties, founded on friendship, mutual respect, and mutually beneficial collaboration.
Energy cooperation was identified as a key driver of economic relations between Azerbaijan and Albania. Bayramov also provided a comprehensive update on the post-conflict situation in the region, detailing reconstruction efforts in territories liberated from occupation and ongoing initiatives to promote normalization and peace with Armenia.
In a separate engagement, Bayramov met with Montenegro’s Deputy Prime Minister for International Relations and Foreign Minister Ervin Ibrahimović. Their discussions centred on deepening cooperation across politics, economics, energy, and humanitarian relations.
Bayramov underscored the importance of regular high-level visits and political consultations to maintain a consistent political dialogue. He also informed Ibrahimović about Azerbaijan’s role as Chair of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) and reaffirmed Azerbaijan’s commitment to sustainable cooperation on environmental initiatives. The two sides exchanged views on Azerbaijan’s post-conflict restoration efforts and the commitment to achieving sustainable peace and security.
Continuing his engagements, Bayramov met with Egypt’s Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty, congratulating him on his recent appointment. The ministers discussed the long-standing constructive ties rooted in mutual respect and trust, facilitated by direct contact between the heads of state.
Bayramov highlighted the significance of the Azerbaijani President’s recent official visit to Egypt, noting it as a pivotal step toward strengthening bilateral cooperation. They expressed gratitude for Egypt's commitment to participate at the head-of-state level in COP29, which could open new avenues for collaboration in green energy. Bayramov also shared insights into the regional situation in the post-conflict period and the progress being made in the normalization process with Armenia.
In his subsequent meeting, Bayramov met with Alva Baptiste, Saint Lucia's Foreign Minister, where he emphasized the necessity of intensifying political dialogue to explore potential relations between their countries. He informed Baptiste about Azerbaijan's initiatives related to its presidency at COP29, highlighting promising prospects for further cooperation.
