Azerbaijan submits espionage, treason case to Baku military court
The Baku Military Court has received materials from a criminal case investigated by the State Security Service (SSS), following the completion of the preliminary investigation."
Four people have been detained as part of a criminal investigation on charges of treason and espionage for foreign intelligence agencies, Caliber.Az reports per Azertag.
In this vein, Ilkin Qanbarov and servicemen Vusal Aghayev, accused of committing treason by assisting a foreign intelligence agency, were detained and brought in for investigation by the SSS.
As part of ongoing operations, Tural Aliyev was apprehended in Jordan, and Mammad Sharifov was detained in Türkiye before being brought to Azerbaijan.
The suspects have been charged under Article 274 of Azerbaijan’s Criminal Code, which covers treason against the state.
The law provides for a penalty of 12 to 20 years in prison, or, depending on the circumstances, life imprisonment.
