Azerbaijan to train Ukrainian specialists in humanitarian demining PHOTO
The Azerbaijan National Agency for Mine Action (ANAMA) and the State Emergency Service of Ukraine (SESU) have signed a memorandum of understanding, which outlines plans for training Ukrainian specialists in Azerbaijan in the field of humanitarian demining.
The agreement was signed by ANAMA Chairman Vugar Suleymanov and SESU Deputy Head Roman Prymush during the Ukraine Mine Action Conference (UMAC-2025), held on October 22–23 in Tokyo, Japan, Caliber.Az reports per ANAMA.
As part of the conference, which brought together around 400 delegates from various countries and international organisations, Suleymanov also delivered remarks at the first plenary session.
He highlighted the scale of the mine threat in territories of Azerbaijan liberated from occupation, the humanitarian and economic consequences of landmine contamination, and ongoing efforts to restore safety in affected areas.
Suleymanov underscored that the mine threat transcends borders, calling for stronger global cooperation to address what remains one of the world’s most pressing humanitarian and security issues.
