Azerbaijan, Türkiye reinforce strategic defence alliance in high-level talks
Azerbaijan's Defence Minister, Colonel General Zakir Hasanov, held talks on April 16 with a visiting Turkish parliamentary delegation led by Hulusi Akar, a member of the Grand National Assembly and chairman of its National Defence Commission.
The delegation, headed by Akar, who previously served as Türkiye’s Minister of National Defence, was received in Baku as part of ongoing efforts to deepen bilateral ties, Caliber.Az reports, citing Defence Ministry.
In keeping with diplomatic protocol, Akar signed the Book of Honour at the Ministry of Defence.
Colonel General Hasanov welcomed the visitors, underscoring the strong personal rapport between the presidents of both countries as a key driver of Azerbaijani-Turkish cooperation, particularly in the military domain.
Akar expressed appreciation for the warm hospitality, noting that this marked his first visit to Azerbaijan in 2025. He highlighted the significance of regular exchanges between the two nations and reaffirmed that their defence cooperation, now elevated to the level of a strategic alliance, continues to expand.
The talks also included a broad discussion on regional security matters and other topics of shared interest, according to a statement from Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Defence.
