Azerbaijan, Uganda keen to expand bilateral cooperation PHOTO
Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov met with a delegation led by Oryem Henry Okello, Uganda’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs in charge of International Cooperation, to discuss ways to expand bilateral cooperation.
The meeting focused on the current state of and future prospects for Azerbaijan-Uganda relations, with both sides noting the rapid growth of ties over the 30 years since diplomatic relations were established, Caliber.Az reports, citing Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry.
Bayramov underlined Azerbaijan’s commitment to strengthening relations with Uganda and African nations in general, emphasizing the importance of effectively leveraging existing potential. The discussions covered potential partnerships across a range of sectors, including the economy, trade, agriculture, energy, tourism, and education.
Both parties praised the establishment of Ugandan government service centres modeled on Azerbaijan’s ASAN Service system. They also highlighted the importance of promoting investment, expanding business ties, and implementing joint projects. Cooperation within international organizations, including the Non-Aligned Movement, and mutual support on multilateral platforms were emphasized as key areas of continued collaboration.
The meeting further highlighted the Ugandan students’ involvement in Azerbaijani universities under scholarship programs for Non-Aligned Movement countries.
Security and regional issues were also on the agenda. FM Bayramov briefed the delegation on the conflict with Armenia, the post-conflict situation in the region, reconstruction efforts in de-occupied territories, and ongoing initiatives to advance a peaceful agenda.
The session concluded with political consultations between the foreign ministries of Azerbaijan and Uganda, chaired by Deputy Foreign Minister Yalchin Rafiyev for Azerbaijan and Oryem Henry Okello for Uganda, reinforcing the two countries’ commitment to deepening diplomatic and economic ties.
