Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov and Director General of the United Nations Office in Geneva (UNOG) Tatiana Valova discussed Azerbaijan-UNOG cooperation and regional issues.
The meeting was held during the Azerbaijani minister’s visit to Switzerland on September 12, Caliber.Az reports.
The sides expressed satisfaction with the cooperation between Azerbaijan and UNOG. Besides, Bayramov expressed support for UNOG activities in such areas as human rights, youth policy, gender equality, Sustainable Development Goals, environmental protection, and economic development.
It was noted that Azerbaijan actively works within the UN and chairs the UN Special Programme for the Economies of Central Asia (SPECA).
It was also announced that the SPECA summit will be held in Baku in November of 2023.
The parties were satisfied with Valova’s visits to Azerbaijan and the high-level meetings held within the framework of these visits.
During the meeting, the Azerbaijani minister expressed gratitude for the conditions created for strengthening the cooperation of UNOG with the Permanent Mission of Azerbaijan in Geneva and other structures of the country.
Moreover, UNOG Director was informed about the situation in the region and the process of normalisation of relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia. It was noted that despite Azerbaijan's peace initiatives in the post-conflict period, Armenia continues to commit provocations. Particular attention was paid to the continuing mine threat. The groundlessness of statements about the "humanitarian situation" in the region and the "blockade" was also noted.
