Azerbaijan urges stronger Turkic unity amid regional tensions
Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister, Jeyhun Bayramov, has called for greater solidarity and strategic coordination among Turkic states, amid rising geopolitical tensions and regional security challenges.
Speaking at the Informal Meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) in Istanbul, Bayramov highlighted the organisation’s progress in fostering political dialogue, expanding economic partnerships, and enhancing regional connectivity across the Turkic world, Caliber.Az reports, citing the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry's X social media account.
He voiced serious concerns over the deteriorating security environment, condemning recent military actions in the Middle East, including the rocket attack targeting Türkiye and drone strikes by Iran on Azerbaijan’s Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic.
Bayramov reaffirmed Azerbaijan’s commitment to a just and lasting resolution of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict based on international law and the two-state solution. He also addressed the ongoing Azerbaijan-Armenia peace process, underlining the need for the elimination of territorial claims against Azerbaijan that remain in Armenia’s constitution to achieve full normalisation and sustainable peace following the Washington Summit on 8 August 2025.
Outlining Azerbaijan’s priorities as Chair of the OTS, Bayramov emphasised strengthening institutional capacity, developing the OTS+ framework for cooperation with external partners, and promoting upcoming initiatives, including the Second Meeting of OTS Prime Ministers/Vice Presidents and the 100th anniversary of the First Turcological Congress, aimed at deepening cooperation across the Turkic world.
