Azerbaijan, Zimbabwe explore new frontiers in energy cooperation PHOTO
The State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) and the National Assembly of Zimbabwe have discussed opportunities to expand cooperation across various segments of the energy sector during a meeting in Baku.
The talks took place on July 8 between SOCAR President Rovshan Najaf and Jacob Francis Nzwidamilimo Mudenda, Speaker of the National Assembly of Zimbabwe, Caliber.Az reports, citing SOCAR.
During the meeting, the Azerbaijani side outlined the country's energy strategy and highlighted the globally significant energy projects implemented at Azerbaijan's initiative. The discussions also focused on the favorable investment climate created in Azerbaijan, emphasizing the country's political stability and sustainable development, which have enabled the successful operation of foreign companies.
Mudenda was also briefed on SOCAR's transformation from a national oil and gas company into an international energy enterprise with diversified operations across the energy value chain. The company presented an overview of its activities and projects in Azerbaijan and abroad.
The talks further covered SOCAR's green energy agenda, including renewable energy projects being implemented jointly with international partners and the company's long-term decarbonization objectives.
In addition, the Azerbaijani side highlighted SOCAR's growing emphasis on digital transformation, noting that the company is investing in new initiatives related to the development of data centres and artificial intelligence technologies. Officials also noted that three SOCAR facilities have been recognized by the World Economic Forum with its Digital Lighthouse designation in recognition of excellence in digital innovation.
The meeting concluded with an exchange of views on prospects for broader cooperation across the energy sector, experience sharing, and other issues of mutual interest between Azerbaijan and Zimbabwe.
