The Azerbaijani State Border Service has prevented the smuggling of over 3 kg of drugs from Iran.
“On 16 June at 01:30, smuggling of drugs from Iran to Azerbaijan was prevented at the border outpost of the border detachment Horadiz of the State Border Service of Azerbaijan located near Muganli village of Zangilan region,” the service said in a statement, Caliber.Az reports.
As a result of search operations, 3 kg and 215 grams of marijuana were found and seized in a package hidden in the bushes on the bank of the Araz River, the State Border Service added.
An investigation has been launched into the fact.
The Horadiz border detachment operates in the liberated Fuzuli District of Azerbaijan on the border with Iran. After liberating its lands from the Armenian occupation during the 44-day war in 2020, Azerbaijan has regained control over the 132-km section of the Azerbaijani-Iranian border.
Following the restoration of its territorial integrity, Azerbaijan is taking steps to ensure the safety and restoration of order in the liberated lands. One of these measures is to halt the flow of drugs in the region that was previously controlled by Armenia's illegal regime in Karabakh.
