Azerbaijani chessplayer breaks streak of bad luck in American St. Louis

07 November 2022 17:02

The "Fall Chess Classic" chess tournament is being held in the US city of St. Louis with Azerbaijan’s player Nijat Abbasov participating.

As Caliber.Az reports citing the Azerisport.com website, he achieved a draw in the fifth round with the American Hans Niemann, therefore managing to break a streak of bad luck that led him to lose the last two games.

After winning 2 points for the draw, Abbasov is now 8th on the ranking list, positioning him only 1.5 points behind the current champion of the tournament, grandmaster Vidit Gujrathi from India.
