The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov, recently had a meeting with Regina de Dominicis, the Regional Director of the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) for Europe and Central Asia, who also serves as the Special Coordinator for Refugees and Migrants in Europe.
Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry told Caliber.Az that during the meeting, the sides discussed various issues related to the cooperation between Azerbaijan and UNICEF, including prospects for further collaboration, as well as the current regional situation.
Bayramov noted that since the first days of regaining independence, Azerbaijan has been closely cooperating with various specialised UN structures, including UNICEF, in the field of creating better educational and health opportunities for children who became refugees and internally displaced persons as a result of the Armenian occupation of our territories.
The minister also mentioned the awareness-raising activities carried out within the framework of cooperation with UNICEF, in particular in the field of combating the threat of mines, and stressed the importance of drawing the attention of the international community to this threat.
Regina de Dominicis noted that UNICEF is interested in continuing the current successful experience of cooperation with Azerbaijan, in particular within the framework of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), which will be held in Azerbaijan this year.
Jeyhun Bayramov, in turn, briefed his interlocutor on the preliminary plans for the preparation of COP29.
Other issues of mutual interest were also discussed during the meeting.
