Azerbaijani FM, Greek deputy FM hail importance of developing energy ties
Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov received Deputy Foreign Minister of Greece Alexandra Papadopoulou on March 13, who is on a visit to Azerbaijan.
During the meeting the sides discussed cooperation between Azerbaijan and Greece on bilateral and multilateral platforms, the process of normalising the ties between Azerbaijan and Armenia and regional issues, the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry told Caliber.Az.
The sides noted the importance of developing ties in political, trade, economic, energy, agricultural, tourism, humanitarian and other spheres, and emphasised the need to expand cooperation in accordance with the interests of the two peoples.
Bayramov recalled the meeting with his Greek counterpart in December 2023 and emphasised that along with political contacts, it is necessary to strengthen the activity of the joint intergovernmental commission on cooperation in the economic, industrial and technological spheres.
The sides confirmed the importance of developing energy ties between the two countries, emphasising the exceptional importance of the Southern Gas Corridor, the Trans Adriatic Pipeline, and the Gas Interconnector Greece-Bulgaria.
Confidence was expressed during the meeting that successful energy cooperation will contribute to development and stability in the region.
Bayramov informed Papadopoulou about the new realities in the region in the post-conflict period, the factors that determined anti-terrorism measures, the process of normalising relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia, as well as the agenda of the peace treaty, restoration and construction work in the liberated territories.
The political consultations were held between the foreign ministries of Azerbaijan and Greece during Papadopoulou’s visit. During the consultations, the issues of bilateral cooperation, cooperation within regional and international organisations were discussed.
