Azerbaijani FM, US Assistant Secretary of State discuss recent situation in region
Azerbaijan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Jeyhun Bayramov and Assistant Secretary of State for Europe and Eurasia Karen Donfried have discussed the current situation in the region, as well as the peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
In a telephone conversation, the sides discussed existing issues on the agenda of bilateral cooperation between the two countries, the current situation in the region, as well as the peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia, Caliber.Az reports this with reference to the press service of the Foreign Ministry.
Bayramov informed about the latest situation in the region, including the latest provocations by Armenia, which continues to transfer personnel and military ammunition to the sovereign territories of Azerbaijan, and the steps taken by our country against these provocations without the use of force.
The Azerbaijani foreign minister also drew attention to the non-constructive approaches of Armenia, which hinder the negotiations on a peace agreement, and stressed that Azerbaijan is ready to start negotiations on a peace agreement at any time.
In turn, Donfried stressed the importance of normalizing relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia for regional peace and development.
The two sides noted the importance of creating a checkpoint between Azerbaijan and Armenia at the beginning of the Lachin road in order to prevent illegal activities on the territory of Azerbaijan.
They expressed their concern over the recent tense situation in the region and urged to resolve all misunderstandings through negotiations.
It was also stated during the conversation that the American side was ready to support the process.
