On October 9, Azerbaijan’s Defence Minister, Colonel General Zakir Hasanov, met his Georgian counterpart, Irakli Chikovani, in Ankara, during the 12th Trilateral Meeting of the Defence Ministers of Azerbaijan, Georgia and Türkiye.

The two ministers discussed a broad range of issues related to defence cooperation and regional security, Caliber.Az reports via the Azerbaijani Defence Ministry.

Both sides underlined that military collaboration between Azerbaijan and Georgia contributes to peace and stability in the South Caucasus.

The ministers highlighted the importance of regular high-level contacts and mutual visits as a sign of the strong ties between Baku and Tbilisi, both in the defence sphere and other areas. They also noted that continued trilateral and bilateral cooperation plays a key role in promoting a secure and prosperous environment for the region’s nations.

Hasanov and Chikovani exchanged views on new avenues for defence cooperation, including plans to expand joint military exercises to enhance interoperability and exchange of experience.

The meeting took place as part of Hasanov’s working visit to Türkiye, where he is attending talks with his Georgian and Turkish counterparts on strengthening defence and security cooperation among the three countries.
