Azerbaijani lawmaker slams France for supporting Armenians throughout history
Member of the People of Corsica Support Group in the Azerbaijani parliament Azer Karimli has accused France of supporting Armenians throughout history, including their role in the Khojaly genocide.
Karimli made these remarks during a meeting with journalists from French colonies, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
He highlighted that France continues offering material, moral, political, and military support to Armenia's revanchist forces and criticised the persistence of colonialism in the 21st century, describing it as one of the most significant global issues.
"France's policy represents an undeclared war against all civilized humanity and the principles of humanism," he asserted.
The lawmaker further emphasised the importance of Azerbaijan’s leadership during its presidency in the Non-Aligned Movement, noting that it created a foundation for the promotion of the Bandung Principles and the advocacy for the rights of peoples suffering from colonialism and neocolonialism.
He also pointed to one of the primary motivations behind France’s aggressive and unlawful policies toward Azerbaijan—France's discontent with Azerbaijan’s support for nations suffering from French neocolonialism, along with Azerbaijan's refusal to comply with neo-imperialist demands.
“Azerbaijan will continue supporting peoples in need, and no pressure will break our will,” Karimli concluded, reaffirming Azerbaijan's commitment to resisting external pressures.
The Khojaly genocide is the gravest crime committed against peaceful Azerbaijani people in the course of Armenia’s aggressive war against Azerbaijan. On the night of February 25-26, 1992, in violation of all international legal norms, Armenian armed forces attacked the civilian population of the sieged town of Khojaly with heavy military equipment, killing them with unprecedented brutality and razing the town to the ground. As a result of crime against not only the people of Azerbaijan but against humanity, 613 civilian Azerbaijanis, including 63 children, 106 women and 70 elders were brutally murdered on grounds of national identity. The Khojaly genocide is one of a series of acts of mass slaughter aiming to crush those who rose up for the defence of their lands from Armenian armed forces’ aggression.
