Azerbaijani minister announces plans for new faculty at Karabakh University
Azerbaijani Minister of Science and Education Emin Amrullayev has said that in the upcoming academic year, up to 1,500 students are expected to be enrolled at the Karabakh University.
"This number may change. Mainly, new programmes will be established based on existing faculties, with new teaching specialisations in chemistry, biology, physics, and geography. The number of engineering specialties will be increased. We also plan to open a medical faculty," the minister told Report, Caliber.Az informs.
Amrullayev noted that preliminary work on the construction of two new university buildings has already begun.
The minister noted that starting next year, students from Turkic-speaking countries and member states of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation are expected to study at Karabakh University.
Amrullayev added that next year, education at Karabakh University will still be free of charge.
Moreover, dean of the Faculty of Arts of Karabakh University, composer Turker Qasimzade has said that thanks to joint efforts, Karabakh University has achieved significant success.
"A year has already passed since the establishment of Karabakh University, which was founded on November 27, 2023, upon the decree of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev. During this period, the teaching staff from various faculties of Karabakh University have participated in international festivals and competitions. Some of them have even emerged as winners," he said.
He said that the Faculty of Arts at Karabakh University initially brought together some of the most professional professors in the country, as well as talented students.
"Over the past year, we have achieved success. I am confident that education at Karabakh University will continue meeting the highest standards. Today, as the Faculty of Arts at Karabakh University, we would like to celebrate our anniversary with a concert and an exhibition," he said.
At the event, faculty and students of Karabakh University performed works from various genres by Azerbaijani and Western European composers. A wonderful exhibition was organised, featuring around 140 artworks created in various techniques.
Qasimzade emphasised that the Faculty of Arts offers programmes in "music education," "instrumental performance," "vocal performance," "national vocal," "khanende" (folk music genre) and "design."
He also mentioned that among the faculty members at Karabakh University are People's and Honored Artists, and the curriculum follows international standards. He also noted that during the year, faculty and students from various departments of Karabakh University participated in numerous international festivals and contests.
"There are winners among them. Our students participate in various exhibitions, concerts, and festivals. This is just the beginning. You will frequently hear the name of the Faculty of Arts of Karabakh University in the context of the country's cultural life," he added.
