Azerbaijani ombudsman's reps meet with citizens of Armenia convicted in Azerbaijan PHOTO
On behalf of the Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of Azerbaijan Sabina Aliyeva, members of the National Preventive Group for the Prevention of Torture continue to visit places of temporary detention, doing this without prior notice to the leadership of penitentiary institutions.
As the press service of the Ombudsman's Office told Caliber.Az, the purpose of the next event, organized in accordance with the Optional Protocol of the UN Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment and the Constitutional Law "On the Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) Republic of Azerbaijan”, was the study of the conditions of detention and treatment, the state of ensuring the rights of detainees.
During the meeting, which was also attended by a doctor, member of the National Preventive Group, Armenian citizens convicted of committing criminal acts in the liberated territories of Azerbaijan after the cessation of hostilities were also received in accordance with the tripartite statement signed by the heads of Azerbaijan, Russia and Armenia on November 10 2020.
During a confidential conversation, it was established that conditions were created for telephone communication, correspondence, contacts with family members, access to information (television, print media), and proper medical care for each convict.
The received persons did not complain about the conditions of their detention and treatment.
It has been established that these persons are treated in full accordance with the norms of international law and their rights are ensured, including the provision of the necessary medical and psychological services.
