Azerbaijani Ombudswoman raises mine issue in liberated territories at meeting with UNDP rep

17 April 2024 19:53

During a meeting with UNDP Resident Representative a.i. in Azerbaijan, Alessandra Roccasalvo, Sabina Aliyeva highlighted the pressing mine problem in the recently liberated territories, as reported by Caliber.Az.

Aliyeva discussed the factual missions conducted to date in the reclaimed areas, underscoring the violations of international law, including humanitarian principles, due to Armenia's occupation policy. She emphasized the imperative need for robust international participation in demining efforts across the de-occupied regions.

Additionally, Aliyeva pointed out that comprehensive ad-hoc reports detailing these violations had been compiled and forwarded to relevant international organizations, Ombudsmen, and human rights bodies in foreign nations.

The discussion also encompassed potential avenues for collaboration at the forthcoming COP29 conference in Baku. Both parties stressed the vital role of national human rights institutions in actively engaging with COP29.
