Azerbaijani parliament speaker points to broad potential in Baku–Madrid relations

Azerbaijan and Spain have been engaged in an active political dialogue in recent years, creating conditions for a broad and in-depth discussion of the current state of bilateral relations and their future development.

According to local media, this was stated by Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova during a joint press conference in Baku with the President of the Congress of Deputies of Spain, Francina Armengol Socias.

Gafarova noted that cooperation between the two countries has already been successfully established in a number of areas and that there are solid prospects for expanding this cooperation and extending it to new fields. She also pointed out that efforts are continuing to broaden the contractual and legal framework underpinning bilateral relations.

“By a number of areas, successful cooperation has been established, and there are good opportunities for its further expansion and for covering new fields. At the same time, work is underway to expand the legal and contractual framework,” Gafarova said.

She stressed the particular importance of developing cooperation in science, education, and culture, underlining the positive impact such interaction could have on people-to-people contacts.

“Strengthening ties in these areas will allow the two peoples, especially youth, to get to know each other better and draw even closer,” the speaker of parliament said.

In addition, Gafarova highlighted the existence of favourable opportunities for deepening interparliamentary cooperation between Azerbaijan and Spain.

“The current visit of the President of the Congress once again confirms our intention to take advantage of these opportunities,” she added.
