Azerbaijani parliament speaker receives Order of Friendship for advancing ties with Russia

Russian President Vladimir Putin has awarded the prestigious Order of Friendship to Sahiba Gafarova, the speaker of the Azerbaijani parliament, in recognition of her efforts to strengthen the ties between Russia and Azerbaijan.

The decree, issued by the Russian president, was published on the official legal information website. Gafarova was honoured for her significant contributions to enhancing bilateral relations between the two nations, Caliber.Az reports.

Gafarova has been serving as the speaker of the Azerbaijani parliament since 2020 and was re-elected to this post in September 2024. Throughout her career, she has played an instrumental role in fostering cooperation between Azerbaijan and various international organizations, including her work as a member of the Azerbaijani delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.
