Azerbaijani president’s aide congratulates women on March 8 Honours female sappers in Karabakh
Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan - Head of the Foreign Policy Department of the Presidential Administration Hikmet Hajiyev has shared a publication on his social network page on the occasion of International Women's Day - 8 March.
“In the face of Azerbaijani female humanitarian demining operatives who by risking their own lives in the landmine contaminated fields, are saving lives inch by inch clearing our lands from Armenia implanted "seeds of death" -landmines, I offer congratulations to all women on the occasion of International Women Day. Saving one life is saving the world!” Hajiyev wrote on social network X, according to Caliber.Az.
Following the end of the 44-day Second Karabakh War in 2020, Azerbaijan has initiated comprehensive demining operations in the liberated territories, addressing the pervasive contamination of residential areas, agricultural lands, riverbanks, forests, and cemeteries with landmines and unexploded ordnance.
The demining operations are a collaborative effort involving the Azerbaijani Minie Action Agency (ANAMA), the Ministry of Defence, the Ministry of Emergency Situations, and the State Border Guard Service. Together, these agencies are working diligently to ensure the safety and security of the liberated areas, allowing for the return of civilians and the resumption of normal life.
ANAMA's ongoing efforts reflect Azerbaijan's commitment to post-conflict reconstruction and humanitarian relief in the regions affected by the conflict. By systematically clearing landmines and unexploded ordnance, Azerbaijan aims to create safe conditions for displaced communities to return to their homes and rebuild their lives.
The successful demining operations underscore the dedication and effectiveness of ANAMA and its partners in mitigating the hazards posed by explosive remnants of war and advancing the process of recovery and development in the liberated territories.
After the liberation of Azerbaijani territories from Armenian occupation, reports indicate that Armenia deliberately planted land mines in these areas as a part of its military strategy. The land mines, intended to inflict harm on civilians and obstruct the return of displaced persons, pose a significant threat to the safety and security of the region.
