21 May 2024 18:11

Prime Minister of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) Unal Ustel has met with the Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of Azerbaijan, Sabina Aliyeva, and the Chief Ombudsman of Türkiye, Şeref Malkoç in Lefkoşa.

Ustel welcomed the guests who arrived in the country at the invitation of the TRNC Ombudsman, Ilkan Varol, AZERTAC reports.

The PM emphasized the importance of consolidating the efforts of the three countries in all areas, including within the institution of human rights commissioners. "The TRNC, Türkiye, and Azerbaijan must act in the spirit of the principle 'One nation, three states'," the Prime Minister underlined.

The head of government praised the stance of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who called for international recognition of the TRNC from the UN podium. He also noted the significance of the decision by the Organization of Turkic States to grant observer status to the TRNC.

Ustel shared his impressions of his recent visit to Azerbaijan and announced that he would visit Baku again on June 12 at the invitation of one of the country’s political parties. The TRNC Prime Minister thanked Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and the New Azerbaijan Party (YAP) for their support of the rights of Turkish Cypriots.

Azerbaijani Human Rights Commissioner Sabina Aliyeva highlighted the importance of the unity of Turkic peoples. "Turkic states are strong when they are together," the Ombudsperson emphasized.
