Baku, Beijing discuss expansion of legal cooperation within int'l platforms

06 November 2024 18:32

Azerbaijani Prosecutor General Kamran Aliyev has held a meeting with Liu Quesing, Deputy Secretary of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection of the Communist Party of China and Deputy Chairman of the National Supervisory Commission, who is currently on a visit to Azerbaijan.

The meeting focused on expanding legal cooperation between Azerbaijan and China within international platforms, Caliber.Az reports.

Prosecutor General Aliyev emphasised the high level of friendly and partnership relations between the two nations.

He highlighted the historic significance of hosting the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) in Azerbaijan, and noted that on November 15, the Prosecutor General’s Office will organise a high-level plenary session on the topic "Mobilising Law Enforcement Agencies in the Fight Against Climate Change."

In return, Liu expressed gratitude for the warm reception and highly praised the reforms underway in Azerbaijan, particularly in the area of combating corruption.

The discussions then moved on to the prospects for enhancing legal and institutional cooperation between the agencies of the two countries within both bilateral and international frameworks, as well as the possibility of signing a Memorandum of Understanding on mutual understanding and cooperation.

Meanwhile, the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) will take place in Azerbaijan from November 11 to 22. This decision was made during the COP28 plenary session in Dubai on December 11, 2023.

Over two weeks, Baku will become a global hub, hosting approximately 70,000 to 80,000 international attendees.

The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) is an agreement that was signed at the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro in June 1992, to prevent harmful human interference with the climate system.
