Baku, Belgrade set sights on deeper energy collaboration
Sahil Babayev, Minister of Finance of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Co-Chair of the Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation between Azerbaijan and Serbia, met with a delegation led by Dubravka Đedović Handanović, Minister of Mining and Energy of the Republic of Serbia, during her official visit to Azerbaijan to discuss bilateral cooperation, including the current state and future prospects of energy sector collaboration.
Minister Babayev underscored that the relationship between Azerbaijan and Serbia constitutes a strategic partnership, noting that their cooperation has been steadily advancing underpinned by a strong legal framework and sustained high-level political dialogue, Caliber.Az reports via the ministry.
He highlighted that the numerous agreements signed to date, alongside the work of the Intergovernmental Commission and the Strategic Partnership Council, create a solid foundation for further expansion of bilateral cooperation.
Focusing on energy cooperation, Minister Babayev pointed out that since 2023, the delivery of Azerbaijani gas to Serbia through the Bulgaria–Serbia interconnector has been a key achievement in the partnership. He also confirmed that the relevant agreement has been extended through the end of 2026, with gas supplies continuing without interruption.
Minister Đedović, in turn, emphasised the significance of enhancing effective and mutually advantageous energy cooperation. She highlighted that the agreement signed in February 2026, which outlines the construction of a gas-turbine power plant in Serbia, is expected to make an important contribution to strengthening regional energy security.
The meeting further included a comprehensive exchange of views on expanding collaboration in areas such as oil and petroleum products, electricity, and green and renewable energy sources.
