Baku, Bratislava examine priorities for Azerbaijan-NATO partnership
Jafar Huseynzade, the Head of Azerbaijan's Delegation to NATO held a meeting with Marek Varga, the Permanent Representative of Slovakia to NATO, to discuss the key priorities in the partnership between Azerbaijan and the alliance.
Varga highlighted the significance of the meeting in light of Slovakia’s upcoming role as the coordinating NATO embassy in Azerbaijan, a responsibility the Slovak diplomatic mission will assume next year, Caliber.Az reports, citing a post by the Slovak diplomat on X.
“We discussed the peace negotiations between Azerbaijan and Armenia, the priorities of our partnership, and also exchanged views on the war in Ukraine, emphasizing the importance of adhering to the United Nations Charter,” Varga noted.
It is worth recalling that the transfer of NATO's coordinating embassy functions in Azerbaijan to the Slovak embassy was previously discussed during a meeting between Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Slovak President Peter Pellegrini.
To recap, starting next year, the Slovak Embassy will take on the role of NATO coordinator in Azerbaijan, this was announced during the meeting between Ilham Aliyev, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Peter Pellegrini, President of the Slovak Republic on November 11.
