Baku court reviews documents detailing Armenia’s phosphorus shelling
The Baku Military Court continued the trial of Armenian citizens on September 29, presenting documents that include evidence of the use of 122mm high-phosphorus artillery shells and the resulting civilian deaths during the April 2016 clashes.
The documents outline incidents during the April 2016 clashes, including bodily injuries inflicted on civilians, attempts on their lives, damage to property, and other related episodes, Caliber.Az reports per local media.
The documents further examined the shelling of the village of Askipara in the Tartar district with 122mm P-4 high-phosphorus artillery shells.
The court also reviewed documents about the killings of Chingiz Qurbanov, posthumously awarded the title of “National Hero of Azerbaijan,” and Huseyn Akbarli. The materials also detailed attacks on schools, medical facilities, and other civilian sites, carried out without military necessity.
One of the documents examined notes that from April 2 to April 28, 2016, the armed forces of Armenia carried out numerous crimes by intensively firing large-caliber firearms, mortars, grenades, and artillery at defenseless settlements in Azerbaijan’s Aghdam, Tartar, Goranboy, Fuzuli, and Aghjabadi districts, as well as at educational and medical institutions, and at individual civilians not participating in hostilities, without any military necessity. During the review of the documents, photographs from the crime scenes were also presented.
The trial continues against the Armenian citizens, who face charges including crimes against peace and humanity, war crimes, preparation and waging of an aggressive war, genocide, violations of the laws and customs of war, terrorism, financing of terrorism, and the forceful seizure and retention of power.
