Baku court reviews international report on 1993 Armenian atrocities in Karabakh
At today’s session in the Baku Military Court, documents from an international human rights organisation detailing the brutal attack by Armenian armed forces on Azerbaijani territories in 1993 were examined.
It is stated that the Armenian army forcibly expelled Azerbaijani civilians from all occupied areas in Karabakh, taking hostages and shooting those attempting to flee, Caliber.Az reports citing local media.
It also describes widespread looting and destruction of civilian property, including the capture and pillaging of the city of Aghdam by Armenian forces in July 1993.
The document analyses the involvement of the Armenian armed forces in the Karabakh conflict, emphasising that shelling and bombing of peaceful Azerbaijani communities forced mass displacement.
It highlights serious violations of the Geneva Conventions by Armenia, listing numerous breaches of the laws of war and war crimes committed by Armenian troops. The report also details mistreatment, killings of hostages and prisoners of war.
Meanwhile, court proceedings continue in Baku against Armenian nationals accused of crimes against peace and humanity, war crimes, including planning and waging aggressive war, genocide, violations of the laws and customs of war, terrorism, financing terrorism, the violent seizure and retention of power, and other serious offences.
