Baku, US Middle Corridor mission underscore importance of Washington deal
Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov and the representatives of the US Certified Trade Mission on the Middle Corridor, currently visiting the country, discussed strategic partnership between Azerbaijan and the United States during a meeting on September 8.
The meeting emphasised the historic importance of the trilateral discussions and agreements signed on August 8 in Washington with the participation of the Presidents of Azerbaijan and the United States, along with the Prime Minister of Armenia. These developments were hailed as significant steps toward regional peace and development, while also opening new avenues for enhanced Azerbaijan-US relations, Caliber.Az reports via Foreign Ministry.
In particular, attention was drawn to the importance of the project that will ensure unhindered movement between mainland Azerbaijan and the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic.
Minister Bayramov underscored Azerbaijan’s decades-long efforts to develop the Middle Corridor, a key east-west transport route, through major infrastructure projects including the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway, the Baku International Sea Trade Port, and the Alat Free Economic Zone. He noted the strategic partnerships Azerbaijan maintains with Central Asian countries on the eastern shores of the Caspian Sea, which are vital to the corridor’s success.
The meeting also highlighted Azerbaijan’s long-standing role in Europe’s energy security, with Azerbaijani natural gas now supplied to 14 countries.
The participants discussed Azerbaijan’s expanding renewable energy initiatives with international partners, including the construction of the Black Sea Energy Submarine Cable, aimed at enhancing green energy transmission to Europe.
An exchange of views was also held on various other matters of mutual interest.
