Baku metro system to expand network coverage MAPS
Baku’s metro system is to receive an upgrade by expanding the area its network covers. Locations for the construction of the new stations have now been announced.
As Caliber.Az reports, the “Azerbaijan Road Engineers company has released a map pointing to the locations of those new stations, which are planned to be built by 2040.
The aim is to expand the coverage of the metro system and include outskirt districts of the capital. The new stations are scheduled to be built in areas such as the more central Yeni Yasamal, Koroghlu transport hub, Ziya Bunyadov highway as well as the settlements of Bakikhanov, Garachukhur and Yeni Guneshli.
Unfortunately, the mere availability of new metro stations does not yet mean they will be built. The construction pace of the Baku metro is regrettably slow and catastrophically lags behind the rate at which the capital is growing. It is impulsive to therefore talk about precise dates and reasonable to assume that even in 2040 those new stations will not be opened. Nevertheless, one wants to believe in the good seeing as the significance of the Baku metro system to the capital and its public transport network cannot be undermined.
