Baku, Mogadishu strengthen bilateral agenda with eye on global issues PHOTO
On July 24, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov held a meeting with Somali Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Abdisalam Abdi Ali, who is on an official visit to Baku.
According to the Azerbaijani Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the two ministers began with a one-on-one discussion, followed by an expanded meeting that included delegations from both sides, Caliber.Az reports.
The talks focused on the current state and future prospects of bilateral cooperation between Azerbaijan and Somalia, as well as key regional and international developments.
Both Bayramov and Abdi Ali expressed satisfaction with the noticeable increase in bilateral engagement in recent years, particularly the growing frequency of reciprocal visits. Minister Bayramov emphasised the importance of leveraging the existing potential to strengthen collaboration across political, economic, humanitarian, and other fields.
The discussions highlighted promising opportunities for expanding cooperation in agriculture, fisheries, the oil and gas sector, the defence industry, green energy, as well as in humanitarian and educational spheres.
Particular attention was drawn to the Azerbaijani government delegation's visit to Somalia in February of this year, during which the first round of political consultations was held. That visit was described as a foundational step toward identifying new avenues for cooperation and launching fresh joint initiatives.
The two foreign ministers also reviewed cooperation between Azerbaijan and Somalia within the framework of international organisations.
At the conclusion of the meeting, Bayramov and Abdi Ali held a joint press conference.
