Baku rolls out world-class transport ahead of global urban forum Article by La nostra Gazzetta
Under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev, Azerbaijan has achieved significant progress in the transport sector, alongside broader economic development, says an article by Elnur Jamalkhanov on the Italian news site La nostra Gazzetta.
Transport and logistics currently account for 7.1% of Azerbaijan’s GDP, ranking third in the nation’s economic structure. In 2025, the sector generated an added value of 9.166 billion manats, demonstrating the tangible results of ongoing reforms.
Next month, Baku will host the World Urban Forum (WUF13), regarded as the second most important global event after COP. The forum, taking place from May 17 to 22, serves as a leading platform for discussions on urban governance, infrastructure, and sustainable development strategies. The city is prepared to welcome participants with a fully centralized, coordinated, and efficient transport system.
Baku’s modern transport network reflects years of experience and lessons learned from hosting international events, including COP29. This expertise has allowed the city to plan and optimize transport infrastructure and services professionally, ensuring participants enjoy safe, fast, and comfortable mobility while enhancing Baku’s international reputation.
The city’s transport system operates via a centralized coordination platform that integrates AYNA, Baku Taxi, BakuBus, the Baku Metro, and other relevant institutions. Each entity works in synchrony with the operational committee to manage traffic flow across districts and optimize public transport and taxi services. This coordinated approach guarantees convenient, organized, and reliable mobility for both residents and international visitors.
During WUF13, all city roads, bus routes, taxi stations, and transport infrastructure will be pre-planned. The operational committee will oversee everything—from traffic density analysis to route planning, signage, and digital displays—ensuring accessibility and convenience for all users.
Baku Taxi and BakuBus have been specifically tailored to meet the forum’s transport needs. Baku Taxi will provide quick city transfers and convenient travel from hotels to event venues, while BakuBus will operate to international standards with precise schedules and optimized routes. Visitors can also use mobile applications and information panels for easy navigation.
The city’s centralized transport system extends beyond technical readiness. Special attention has been paid to passenger comfort, service quality, and hospitality. Every stop, station, and taxi service is designed to provide a seamless, high-quality experience that meets international standards.
These measures establish Baku as an ideal host city for WUF13. Participants will not only experience the city’s rich culture and history but also benefit from a safe, fast, and comfortable transport network.
In conclusion, Baku is fully prepared for WUF13. Lessons from past events, professional management by the operational committee, and coordination between AYNA, Baku Taxi, BakuBus, and the Baku Metro ensure all elements of the transport system work in harmony. Forum participants and guests can expect a seamless, stress-free experience while Baku demonstrates its transport capabilities and international readiness.
