Baku to welcome ITU nations for crucial telecom policy talks on priorities of 194 members
A declaration outlining the key priorities of 194 member states of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) will be adopted at the World Telecommunication Development Conference, set to take place in Baku this November.
Speaking at the sidelines of the "Online Azerbaijan" project’s review event, ITU Regional Director Natalia Mochu highlighted the significance of the upcoming conference, Caliber.Az reports per local media.
"This conference is one of the most important for the ITU as it focuses on development issues. As part of the event, we will draft a high-level declaration that will establish the priorities of member states. Additionally, resolutions will be discussed and adopted to define the strategic directions of the ITU's work," she stated.
Mochu also noted that regional priorities would be confirmed during the conference. "For CIS countries, there will be around five priorities, and over the next four years, the ITU will concentrate on their implementation," she explained.
Alongside the main programme, the ITU is planning to host a youth forum to provide young people with a platform to voice their views on the digital future.
"Youth are the most active group in the technology sector, and it is crucial to take their perspectives into account," Mochu said.
She also revealed that additional events might be organised, including a meeting of a women's network to address the ongoing gender gap in access to technology.
"The gender divide remains a significant issue. The conference may also feature other thematic discussions, all dedicated to global and regional digital development," she added.
