bp launches first commercial gas production at ACG block
British energy company bp, operator of the Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli (ACG) field development project, has launched production of free natural gas at the ACG block in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea, marking a significant milestone in the field’s development.
The announcement was made by bp Azerbaijan, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
“bp today announced the start of free natural gas production operations at the ACG block. As a result, ACG, one of the world’s largest oil fields, has begun its first commercial gas production operations,” the company said in a statement.
The launch follows the successful drilling of the first deep-gas production well from the existing West Chirag platform. The well represents an important step toward unlocking the substantial deep-gas potential of the ACG block.
According to bp, the project is expected to provide valuable geological and operational insights in addition to delivering initial gas volumes.
“Alongside initial production, this well provides important reservoir and flow data, helping to assess gas reserves for future full-scale development plans,” the statement said.
The commencement of gas production expands the strategic role of ACG, long recognized as one of the world’s largest oil-producing fields, and opens a new chapter in the development of its significant natural gas resources.
