BP says Azerbaijan hosts its highest-yield wells
British Petroleum (BP) has said that the majority of its most productive wells worldwide are located in Azerbaijan’s Shah Deniz gas field in the Caspian Sea sector.
According to Caliber.Az, the company stated that out of the 20 highest-debit wells drilled by BP globally, 17 are situated at the Shah Deniz field in Azerbaijan.
Shah Deniz is a major natural gas and condensate field in the Azerbaijan sector of the Caspian Sea, operated by a BP-led consortium alongside SOCAR and other partners.
Since coming online in the mid-2000s, it has become a cornerstone of Azerbaijan’s gas export strategy, supplying volumes to regional and European markets through the Southern Gas Corridor, including the South Caucasus Pipeline, TANAP and TAP systems.
The field is widely regarded as one of the largest and most technically complex offshore gas developments in the world, with production carried out in deepwater conditions. BP has long described Azerbaijan as a key hub in its upstream portfolio in the Caspian region.
The latest claim that a majority of its highest-yield wells are located at Shah Deniz highlights the field’s continued operational significance and sustained productivity within the company’s global asset base. It remains central to Azerbaijan’s broader natural gas export revenues growth.
