Brussels conference launches climate action push with COP29 chief negotiator
The Brussels conference "Empowering Climate Action through Ambition, Implementation, and Inclusion," co-organized by the Azerbaijani Embassy in Belgium and the UN Development Programme (UNDP) office in the EU, commenced on July 10.
Yalchin Rafiyev, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and COP29 Chief Negotiator, is participating along with UNDP, EU, WHO, FAO, UNEP senior officials, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
Ambassador Vagif Sadigov of Azerbaijan to Belgium and Luxembourg shared on the social network X that the event, attended by over 200 stakeholders and experts, aims to address urgent climate change challenges and pave the way toward a sustainable future.
The UNDP EU office highlighted COP29 as a crucial step in the collective journey towards sustainability. The office underscored the importance of National Climate Plans (NDCs) in mitigating the severe impacts of climate change. The Climate Promise initiative, proposed by the UN, assists governments in developing new national climate plans aligned with the goal of limiting temperature rise to 1.5 degrees Celsius.
It is noteworthy that the UNDP Climate Promise project collaborates with 119 countries to intensify efforts against climate change, foster equity, combat poverty, and enhance social and environmental sustainability.
