Azerbaijan has made multiculturalism a key national priority, Ramin Mammadov, Chairman of the State Committee for Work with Religious Organisations, has said.
Mammadov made the remarks during a meeting with Christian Kamill, Sweden’s Special Representative for Interreligious and Intercultural Dialogue, Caliber.Az reports.
According to the State Committee, he highlighted that under President Ilham Aliyev’s leadership, Azerbaijan has taken a leading role globally in promoting interreligious dialogue.
He noted that alongside mosques, churches and synagogues are being renovated and restored, new religious buildings are being constructed, and financial support is regularly provided to religious communities, including Christian congregations.
Kamill praised Azerbaijan’s efforts to promote multicultural values, saying the country’s model of tolerance and the government’s commitment to fostering dialogue are particularly important for promoting peace and mutual understanding internationally.
The meeting also explored opportunities for exchanging expertise, enhancing cooperation, and implementing joint projects between Azerbaijan and Sweden.
