Chairman: New postage stamps to bring Western Azerbaijan’s history to the world

The issuance of postage stamps dedicated to Western Azerbaijan serves as a platform to inform the global public about its history, architecture, and notable historical figures, according to Aziz Alakbarli, Chairman of the Western Azerbaijan Community.

He made the remarks during the presentation of a series of stamps reflecting the history of these lands, Caliber.Az reports.

He noted that postage stamps from the Russian Empire era, specifically those dedicated to Iravan, greatly assisted in their historical research. “Thanks to the stamps issued during that period, we confirmed that Iravan was historically a Muslim city,” said Alakbarli.

During the event, it was emphasized that the themes for the stamps were carefully selected. The series, consisting of seven blocks, highlights the political history, architecture, and culture of Western Azerbaijan. The stamps feature the portrait of Huseyngulu Khan Sardar, the last Khan of the Iravan Khanate, a coin from the era of Fath-Ali Shah Qajar, the Sardar Palace and Mosque, the Blue Mosque, as well as portraits of Ashigs Ali and Alasgar, representatives of the Iravan school of Ashigs.

A special block is dedicated to artwork, including the painting "The Capture of the Iravan Fortress" by Russian artist Franz Alekseyevich Roubaud, created in 1886, and "The Blue Mosque in Iravan" by French artist Frédéric Dubois de Montpéreux, painted in 1833. Through these historical artworks, the reality of the past is vividly captured in the new stamps.

The artistic segment of the event concluded with a program dedicated to Iravan music.

Notably, the stamp series was issued at the initiative of the Western Azerbaijan Community, with support from the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport and Azerpost LLC.
