CIS offers promising platform for dialogue among Azerbaijan, Russia, Armenia
Maxim Shevchenko, a prominent Russian political scientist and journalist, has suggested that the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) could serve as an effective forum for dialogue between the leaders of Azerbaijan, Russia, and Armenia.
He emphasized that Azerbaijan is pursuing an independent diplomatic strategy, fostering equal and fair relations with all CIS member states, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
Shevchenko noted that Azerbaijani foreign policy is characterized by constructive engagement with a range of countries, including those in Central Asia and the South Caucasus. He highlighted the robust dialogue between Azerbaijan and Russia, which he described as substantial and constructive.
Having recently visited Karabakh and Shusha, Shevchenko observed various development projects supported by countries such as Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan, underscoring the significant human connections formed through these partnerships. He commended Azerbaijan's proactive role in fostering dialogue and collaboration among post-Soviet states.
Regarding the potential of the CIS as a diplomatic platform, Shevchenko stated, “While the CIS does not possess any formal powers over its member states, it offers a valuable venue for trilateral discussions among the leaders of Azerbaijan, Armenia, and Russia.”
He expressed optimism about the prospects for a meeting between President Ilham Aliyev, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, and President Vladimir Putin within this framework.
