CIS selects Karaganda as 2028 Youth Capital
Kazakh city of Karaganda has been selected as the Youth Capital of the Commonwealth of Independent States for 2028, following a decision adopted in Ashgabat during a meeting of the Council of Heads of Government of the CIS.
According to the same decision, cited by foreign media, Minsk will hold the status of Youth Capital in 2027, preceding Karaganda in the program’s sequence.
In its statement, the CIS Executive Committee stressed that Karaganda possesses significant potential for the development of international youth cooperation and the implementation of intercultural initiatives. The city is expected to serve as a platform for fostering dialogue, collaboration, and exchange among young people from across CIS member states.
The “CIS Youth Capital” initiative is designed to host forums, conferences, and a wide range of youth-oriented events throughout participating countries, with the aim of strengthening regional ties and promoting cultural interaction.
The program was launched in 2024, when Tashkent became the first city to receive the Youth Capital designation.
