CNN Türk: Zangezur Corridor may boost Azerbaijan, Türkiye's influence in S. Caucasus
The progression of the peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia could lead to the opening of the Zangezur Corridor passing through Armenia in the coming years, potentially shifting the South Caucasus power balance in favour of Baku and Ankara, a reportage by CNN Türk says.
In a broadcast dedicated to the Zangezur Corridor, the outlet highlighted that the corridor could boost the political and economic influence of Ankara and Baku, Caliber.Az reports per local media.
“The Zangezur Corridor holds particular significance for Türkiye as a strategic alternative trade route with Central Asian countries,” the report highlighted.
It also noted that Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev’s announcement that most of the work on the Azerbaijani section of the Zangezur Corridor has been completed indicates that the transport and logistics initiative is approaching a decisive stage.
The report also referenced the views of Hüseyin Büyükfırat, Chairman of the Board of the “Turkish-Azerbaijani Businessmen and Industrialists” (TÜİB) Association, who spoke about Azerbaijan’s economic opportunities, particularly in the country’s territories recently liberated from occupation.
TÜİB’s chairman emphasised the importance of the II Azerbaijan-Türkiye Investment Forum, scheduled to take place in Baku on December 23, expected to be attended by Türkiye’s Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz and Trade Minister Ömer Bolat.
